Halo Chronicles

> — Jironimo @ 11:05 pm

Very little is known about the episodic Halo series, codenamed ‘Chronicles,’ being developed by Peter Jackson and his studio, Wingnut Interactive; but what we do know is listed below, starting with the most recent information. Check back often, as we will be updating this page until the developer further disambiguates the content of this title:

Bungie studios makes it known that they are no longer involved in the production of the game:

Frank’s recent departure and the job postings we addressed a few weeks ago (for Chronicles, which we are not involved with) certainly indicate a desire to further expand into the Halo universe. [Bungie - 05/23/08]

In a CVG article, the game was briefly mentioned:

Seeing Halo Wars in action, you can’t help but think that it’s the perfect counterpart to the other new Halo title preparing to leap off the game store shelves and into your hearts this winter - Peter Jackson’s Halo Chronicles.

Because where Jackson’s project is said to focus on the intimate, personal aspect of war, Halo Wars instead presents the run-up to the events as documented in the main Halo trilogy from the perspective of the battleground. [CVG - 03/25/2008]

During a podcast, Joseph Staten reveals the codename of the project: Chronicles. The final name is unrevealed. [Bungie - 09/20/2007]

He also revealed of the Jackson/Bungie collaboration: “We’re in the design phase now”, continuing: “The first series will be set in the Halo universe.” In addition to this deal, Jackson continues to executive produce the currently on hiatus Halo feature film. The game collaboration was first announced at the Microsoft X06 event, when the first was explained to be “a collaborative effort with Bungie Studios to co-create a completely new and original chapter in the Halo franchise.” However, this is the first time that the series has been confirmed to be in episodic, apparently downloadable form. [Gamasutra - 03/07/2007]

Peter Moore stated the following about the title at X06 [Xbox World 360 - 01/11/2007]:

Peter Jackson and Wingnut Interactive will create a whole new Halo series.

Peter Jackson stated the following about the title at X06 [Xbox World 360 - 01/11/2007]:

  • [It is] not a game, and not a film but a filmic game experience.
  • [It will be] interactive entertainment.
  • These are interactive entertainments that aren’t for the hardcore game crowd.
  • It’s not traditional video games. We’re going to be making a form of entertainment that you can watch and enjoy with the emotion of a film, but you interact, you play and you partner with the experience.

The Peter Jackson thing is literally too exciting and secret to really talk about. Let’s just say that any sort of lofty claims made at X06 are actually just the starting point for something that could be revolutionary. If you met Peter and talked to him about video games, you would get it immediately. [Bungie - 10/13/2006]

The Peter Jackson project is shrouded in a level of secrecy that makes us seem like blabbermouths. But Mr. Jackson’s vision, imagination and passion for the project both impressed and surprised me and Sketch. The man loves his Halo and more importantly, he totally gets it. His plans for the Halo universe and Wingnut Interactive are stunning and I wish we could tell you more. [Bungie - 09/29/2006]

A landmark partnership announced between Academy Award-winning writer, director and producer Peter Jackson, Academy Award-winning screenwriter Fran Walsh, and Microsoft Game Studios will create two new interactive entertainment series exclusively for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live®. The first series will be a collaborative effort with Bungie Studios to co-create the next great chapter in the “Halo®” universe. [Microsoft - 09/27/2006]
