Yep, we learn it’s being rebuilt, so perhaps the red parts are the core that we see later, and the finished parts are the geographically finished parts on the diagram…
Haven’t given this a great deal of thought but could the different Halo installations correspond to the homeworlds of various sentient species ‘indexed’ prior to the array being fired? Not got the Bestiarum handy but do any of these match up with descriptions of Covenant homeworlds for example? As to why, who knows? Perhaps a stepping stone prior to full Galactic Repopulation.
I dont think we’ve seen the covenant homeworld yet, though I’d love to see it in the game…and the ending of Halo 3 certainly leaves room for it.
Halfjaw: “But I would certainly long to see our homeworld again…”
Arbiter: “Take us home”
Anyway, interesting thing I noticed: In halo 2, when the Arbiter is being tortured, doesn’t the symbol the big firey stick thing brands on his skin look like one of the symbols for the Halo rings? I’ve checked, and it’s not exactly like any of them, but could it possibly come from another forruner structure the Covenant found? Anyone got any matches?
I think it is the destroyed one, because some of it is still intact, but when you land on the new Halo it’s all snow. Maybe it just happens to be snowing where you land, but I think that the one in that picture is the original.
Well, I’m pretty positive that this is the replacement, because “The Flood” talks about how they sheared through the ring’s “critical systems”, which would somewhat impede it’s ability to send data. That, and it’s in pieces. And the new 04, when it is first shown, looks exactly like this, with chunks of working areas and a ton of red scaffolding-looking areas, which you are probably well aquainted with if you played the last level of Halo 3.
Also, to Ian, High Charity is the Covenant Capital City, and the only race that calls it it’s homeworld are the prophets, because they destroyed most of their homeworld when they took the Dreadnought into space. Each race has their own homeworld; The Grunts is blue and called Balaho, the Brute home planet is a kind of brownish grey color an is called Doisac, the Jackals are from Eayn, which look like a washed-out kind of Earth, the Drones are from Palamok, which looks like green gas planet or something of that nature, the Hunters come from Te, which is purple, and the Elites come from Sanghelios, which is reminiscent of Mars, except with water.
This ring reminds me of the good old days and other things i would like to not talk about. The theories about whther this is 04(I) or 04(II) makes for a good debate…but i dont really have time for that. You guys/girls could debate about that though. No flaming or insulting comments though!…cuz im really sick and tired of forums and blogs being half-filled with them…
so i’m assuming that the visible blue parts showing aren’t damaged, the red area could possibly be being constructed at that moment, or, the “so-called-damaged-parts” could still be floating out in empty space… (i personally think that installation 04 is like a computer having huge difficulties).
Comment by survivaljuice — May 23, 2008 @ 10:39 pm
I think the Red parts are the exposed parts of the main weapon. I remember somewhere that the forerunners build the weapon first, then the halo “shell” around it for protection and to create a habitable environment.
firstly they wouldnt use the remains of the old busted halo due to infection and secondly how the hell would the old busted halo fragments get to the arc which is outside our galaxy u shit heads
Comment by hereticherob91 — May 24, 2008 @ 11:51 pm
my nuber 24 comment was made by a friend who doesnt know that much about halo
installation 04 seems to be taking the most shit from the reclaimers, not even delta halo blew up just this one, and we never did see how the ark fared after it’s encounter with 04(II)
still my point is 04 seems to be hated more than the others
the ark shoud be relitivly ok and should work fine as the halo array only effects organic life
Comment by hereticherob91 — June 11, 2008 @ 2:47 pm
The rings affect only SENTIET life. The Flood is organic, but isn’t affected by the rings firing. But what happens to the Ark after the second Installation 04 blows? Perhaps it can still be used for something useful such as a base for extragalatic travel for both Elites and Humans.
Did the Ark survive? Most probably not as installation 04(2) was incomplete and began to blow up around our feet as soon as the weapon began charging. Now it’s reasonble to assume it went bang very loudly. look back to halo 1 the reactors on the piller of autum oblitorated installation 04(1) when its reactors went critical. So the whole of 04(2) going critical in such proximity to the Ark will have most likly had the same affect ๐
the red parts are probably scaffolding/parts of the instalation under construction and the blue that you see hovering off to the side a little bit is natural resources(water, earth, etc) being transported to create the new ring
I think that this IS the one being created on the Ark. Remember the end of Halo 2? It shown all of the rings, and one had a red beacon on it. The 4th ring. It could possibly mean that (like someone else posted) the flood disrupted communication systems on the ring, and it can no longer send data. So…it can’t send data to the Ark on it’s condition so the Ark decided to make a replacement and submit it’s condition to the ring holograms. Just a thought. ๐

WE <3 INSTALLATION 04.
This is currently blank because it was destroyed, again. The sentinals are all like “dude, WTF?” The Ark said “Screw it, it isn’t worth building again…” shortly before terminating itself.
Comment by Wrath of T3nma — November 18, 2008 @ 10:45 pm
Okay, I will cover a couple of things that I have heard in this forum.
The Ark, if I understand terminology correctly, didn’t survive, quote: “When Halo fired it shook itself to pieces, did a number on the Ark”. Halo was incomplete when it was fired and therefore didn’t survive the firing sequence and instead of just killing sentient life, blew itself and everything around it to pieces and smashed the Ark to pieces also. I get the feeling that in the cinematic after the credits the blue cloud looking thing in space is where Halo blew up.
I can’t say for sure which installation this one is, 04 No.1 or 04 No.2, I feel that it is No.2 because when you land on the new one you start in the snow but then end up on unscuplted terrain, as depicted in this diagram on The Covenant.
Also, I was pretty sure that The Arbiter only got branded with the MoS because he let Chief blow up 04 No.1 and not because he was becoming an Arbiter so I don’t think that they brand every Arbiter with the MoS because the Arbiters are somewhat revered as Heroes as far as I can tell and what happened to the arbiter that we know was just a random chain of original, maybe repeated, who knows, events.
Oh and last thing. When Halo fired it destroyed the portal, The Dawn only half made it through the portal and then got sliced in half as the rear section attempted to pass. So if the portal got destroyed, the Ark and Halo, how did the rear section of the Dawn survive and explosion that wiped out a portal and two planet sized structures???
Comment by MasterGrigg — November 24, 2008 @ 7:58 am
well, if i recall a cutscene in H2 showed a massive chunk of 04-1 with some water, clouds and land still on it. i wonder what would happen if someone were to go and land on it?
personally I doubt the ark was completely destroyed it probably sustained the damage because I’m pretty sure the forerunners had precautions put in place to protect the ark mainly because if it was destroyed the forerunners sacrifice would have been in vain because after all that would leave the galaxy wide open to a flood assault, a complete violation of the mantle.
I’ve heard speculation that they construction of replacement halos, uses some sort of extremely advance nanotechnology. It’s possible that the Forerunner implemented some sort of self-repair system to the Ark, using nano-tech. From the amount of damage the Ark sustained, it might take years to rebuild itself, but it is possible. And since the Forerunner have a mastery of physics, maybe they even have some sort of slipspace/time-dilation field to speed things up.
nano tech uses alot of energy energy that the ark wouldnt be abile to spare with all they have it would just blow even if there was still at least 1 percent of nanobites and jon u took that from stargate didnt you
I thought this was pretty neat.
The first time I saw this I thought “Hey that’s the one Chief blew up. I guess the red parts aren’t responding due to damage.”
Later that became “Hey, that’s the new one being built.”
Great foreshadowing.

it is the Halo being rebuilt at that point, so the non red parts are fully constructed andthe red parts aren’t
Comment by Gangly Creature — May 3, 2008 @ 3:53 am
ok, so non red means built, red means not built, but what do non red parts that seem to be off to the side mean?
Comment by Forbideia — May 3, 2008 @ 12:59 pm
Red and Off to side most likely means “Section Completed, Needs Placement.” Kinda like giant Legos.
Comment by Ph34rFrag — May 3, 2008 @ 4:10 pm
Or could be depiting movement of the construction in real-time. As in pieces off to the side could be being assembled.
