  1. This might possibly be the best expansion pack ever i mean its offering so much it might as well be a seperate game!

  2. Every time I read your articles it makes me go re-play the games and watch for every single detail you’ve mentioned. ๐Ÿ™‚

But there’s a slight inconsistency at the end of the article. The soldiers in the last picture aren’t all ODSTs – only one of them is. The guy who’s being handed the laser. The rest of them are traditional, mass battle-oriented Marines. It’s hard to see the difference because their uniforms look relatively alike, but it’s there. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  4. Thank you for a very well written piece! That was both educational and exciting. Now I’m even more hyped about the damn game…lol

  8. Very, very, very well written. You never cease to amaze me.

  9. i think that you will probably have to set off a nuke or destroy a huge building which would account for the city being barren desert.

    Comment by Grimreaper — February 7, 2009 @ 12:11 am

  10. Once again you prove you know your stuff, however there is one thing you messed up on.

The Covenant stationed at the Unyielding Hirophant knew the location of Earth and were preparing to attack. Cortana states this in Halo: First Strike Chapter 26 Page 237.

There is no real credible evidence to suggest that Regret was over looking the battle group attached to Unyielding Hirophant.

Regret was apparently the one left out of the loop when he jumped the gun. Something he has done before, specifically in The Cole Protocol.

  13. One of the best publishings I’ve read in a while! Very well formatted! But I wonder Bungie… what hints did you provide in here that help to unlock the coveted Recon armor available next weekend!

    Love you guys!!

  14. Once again, this is very well written and I definitely enjoyed reading it. One thing regarding the state of New Mombasa though. In the trailer, it doesn’t look like the blast from Truth’s ship reached to where the “Rookie’s” drop pod landed, so we are still probably in the dark about what the inner part of the city looks like. If the explosion was strong enough to rip the space tether, it had to destroy a bunch of buildings as well.

    Comment by Chris101b — February 7, 2009 @ 2:44 pm

  15. Durandal, it says in First Strike that about twelve ships were left after the explosion, and then Regret had fifteen when he showed up at Earth, so that’s what led me to theorize the way I did. But there’s really not enough info to let us know for sure either way.

    Comment by Cocopjojo — February 8, 2009 @ 12:16 am

  16. Another great article. I’m glad you incorporated elements from the Halo Graphic Novel.

I think that the ONI woman mentioned is the same woman from Contact Harvest.

I also think Halo Wars will show further evidence of bean ONI cover up because Ensemble confirmed that flood will be in HW. We’ll just have to wait and see…

  17. As always a great article!

October 20, 2552 is actually a Friday, small little tidbit of info. =)

    Comment by Max — February 9, 2009 @ 3:46 pm

  18. Well-written article. I really enjoyed reading it and it gave me some good insight to the story behind the game. Normally during the gameplay of Halo: CE, and Halo 3 (I decided to skip 2, played it on co-op and wasn’t a fan), I missed some critical elements in the storyline. This filled in the gaps and definitely makes ODST look a lot better than I could have ever imagined, though I think it might be tough to get used to a Halo game without shields.

Anyway, I really enjoyed reading. Keep it up!

  19. that was great ’cause halo is the best game i’ve ever played i hope i this will be a great expansion

    Comment by mike — February 14, 2009 @ 9:18 pm

  20. Continuing the discussion between Durandal and Cocopjojo; yes the Covanent knew about Earths location, however, just as Cortana stated, I doubt they knew wast that it was inhabited by humans, there of Regrets mistake, he didn’t think he needed an entire armada to complete his mission.

I almost forgot about the prehistoric tribesman, and as you mentioned, it is quite possible yhat the ONI photografers sketch is a referance to that event.
At first I also thought that there also was a connection between “Maddie, where are you?” and the little girl in Second Sunrise etc since she is left with the laptop. But then when watching the ODST version of the trailer I saw that the quote was removed…
Anyway, nice couple of pages, I realy enjoyed reading them.

    Comment by Janaka — February 17, 2009 @ 3:07 pm

  21. The quote was removed from the updated video because of an issue with the name “Maddie.” Apparently, a girl named Maddie went missing a few years ago, and Bungie’s choice of words caused some controversy. So they’re changing her name to something else in the game.

  22. I have one problem with this. if a man seen the forerunner building the ark would he have not been killed when the forerunner turned the rigs on.

    Comment by unseen109 — February 19, 2009 @ 10:37 am

  23. Very, very well done. I completely agree with a previous comment here. Your forging of the story pieces within the epic Halo storyline is just simply fantastic. You really do capture the essence of the whole thing. Absolutely great writing. I mean it. I hope others that are also fascinated with halo lore appreicate the effort and work you put into this. Now I want to revisit all of Halo 2, the books and the grahic novel, again! Please don’t stop doing what your doing here on ascendantjustice.com. This is a true Halo fans website paradise. Keep it up. A fan.

  25. WOW GUYS, I CANT WAIT FOR THIS TO FINALLY DROP. All the insight written here helped me out soo much! I played Halo CE as a “tween” so I never really paid attention to the story-line. I was just hooked to the game-play. When Halo 3 came out, i was still trying to put the pieces together. and now it all finally makes sense. Hopefully, it will be released before I deploy overseas next year! Thanks to everyone at Bungie!

  28. the book ghosts of onyx what about the spartan 111’s
after they made in inside the [orb] how can they get
back to earth with kelly the second spartan 11?

    Comment by LostFade — March 10, 2009 @ 6:24 pm

  29. I wonder what kind of Halo storyline close-ups does this game give. It was shocking enough to know that ‘The Pillar of Autumn’ was running field tests to the Plasma-Rhinos that actually revealed the Arbiter kidnapping Professor Anders and the storyline leading to the weak spot of the Covenant!
Even though Halo Wars was good but the books are a better source of knowledge. I never actually knew that there was alot of other Spartan-II’s

    Comment by Halo For Life — March 12, 2009 @ 3:26 pm

  30. well there are a bunch of other spartan-II’s during the time line of ODST but what would be really helpful would be the spartan III’s because they are efficiant and less expensive.

    Comment by anonymus — March 14, 2009 @ 10:34 pm

  31. well written article
the only thing is that there is a key detail in trailer that you forgot to mention…
at the beginning, at the bottom right of the screen, there is the year of the new mombasa incident. 2552

then, when the HEV lands/crashes the year changes to 2594
then, when you see the debree fly everywhere, the year is 2533
    then 2576
    then 3049!
    then 3098!
    then back to 2594…
then back to 3049 and stays at 3049.
are you sure that its only 6 hours or was it A LOT longer?
or maybe the cameras that were keeping an eye on him went heywire during the slipspace rupture…
    could you explain that?

  32. hey man 10x for this info… every day i go to bungie.net and i cant find what i want from ODST… and u shwed that we gotta be really a lot proud from bungie… 10x Bungie for making the best games ever… but i got a question… is Halo Chronicles a real project that havent been set on bungie. net

    Comment by fireXangel24 — March 16, 2009 @ 3:25 pm

  33. Halo Chronicles is a real project that is not related in any way to Bungie. It’s being handled by Microsoft; either by their Halo Studio or by Peter Jackson’s Wingnut studio. Or perhaps by both.

    Comment by Cocopjojo — March 16, 2009 @ 5:02 pm

  34. nicely done,I always liked the ODST ..can’t wait for the game to come out although I have to deal with a lack of shields..does anyone think its going to come out on October20th??

  35. ohhhhh… i can see what u mean… but i still got another question… I readead about Halo Chronicles on Wikipedia… as well, when is it going to be introduce to gamers? and who is going to handle it?

    Comment by RadaCut — April 13, 2009 @ 2:10 am

  38. hey nice article.
im not sure if u said this, but UNSC trooper has a point. I think its possible that te ODST is the dude with the spartan laser. This could hint that later in the game you meet up with other marines in engagements

    Comment by michael — April 13, 2009 @ 9:56 pm

  39. ever get the striking feeling that the Oni CPT. is going for the ONI facility that the Photographer is hold up at. And we all know the spartan III’s wont show up in New Mombassa when the rookie is there cuase there several weeks away by slipspace staging for a mission to enemy territory. And the other spartan’s wont show up at new mombassa becuase buy the time the rook wakes up, more covenant renforcement start to trickle in as stated in GoO and Fred and rest of red team are sent all over the world fighting the covenant encursions all over earth, the ruined city of new mombassa the least of the UNSC’s worries at the time. and at the end of Halo 2, earth was in a large scale battle still when truth forces arrived.
